If you’re not sure what sort of treat you should make for your 4th of July festivities, try making these Patriotic Fruit Pizza with the kids. They’re really simple to make and you only need four ingredients…(well five if you want to be picky and count the blueberries and strawberries separately). This is a perfect treat for the summer and if you don’t like either of those fruits, you can add any other fruit toppings to your liking as you can see in Banner Boutique’s post.
Ingredients:
- Sugar cookie dough (we used the Pillsbury pre-made sugar cookie dough)
- Room temperature cream cheese (8 oz…we used Trader Joe’s brand)
- A tub of whipped cream (we used Trader Joe’s House Whip…which I just discovered and love)
- Blueberries
- Diced up strawberries
Directions:
Set your oven to 350 F and grease your mini muffin tin. First roll sugar cookie dough into balls…about 1 inch in diameter.
Then place them into your mini muffin tin. We decided to do an experiment. We took a muddler and formed the cookie dough into cups.
We only did this to half of the dough. The other half we just left them as rolled balls. We then placed them in the oven and cooked them for about 7-8 minutes. (our cookies were a little bigger than the Banner Boutique’s….so we cooked them a little longer).
Surprise! They all came out looking the same! 😉
While we waited for the cookies to cool…we took the package of room temperature cream cheese and the tub of whipped cream and mixed them together. NOTE: We only used about half of this mixture…. probably because we made our cookies a little bigger and didn’t yield as many cookies….So I would recommend making smaller cookies, baking more cookies or cutting the creamy mixture ingredients in half.
Next, place the mixture into a zip lock back and cut a corner of the bag so the kids can pipe it into the cookie cups. Pop all the cookies out of the pan and start piping.
Then place your fruit on top of the mixture.
And yes…my daughter managed to get tons of cookie dough on her shirt. I let her play with what little unused portion we had left….at least she had a great time. 😉
We ate one right after we made them (couldn’t resist). Then we covered the rest and put them in the refrigerator. I must say I thought these tasted great…if not better the next day after they were chilled.
Yum!
